Car classing question: someone has asked me what class this car should be in "2016 Focus RS, 93 octane tune and full exhaust. The rest is stock but it came with michelin cup 2 tires"

After some research, SCCA has put it on BS, then there is an exception with the Cup 2 tires at a TW of 180. Where should this end up?

Also, this will be a first time driver.......so, will the class matter much?

If he has 180 TW he is sticker then 200 TW. He needs to go up one class.

First, SCCA national has encouraged local regions to allow cars to run on the tires it came with even if it is less than 200 TW. They would only be disallowed officially at national tours.

Second, "tune for 93 octane" wouldn't be offered if the ECU was never touched. That's STU at minimum for the tune.

Pretty much the tune puts it in STU and the full exhaust depending on the location or attendance of catalytic converters might push him to SP.
Nevertheless I highly doubt it matters. Is that his first autox?

Edit: oh and yes, Mike is right, the SCCA allows OEM tires to be used in street and street touring classes even if they are below 200TW at local events with he last word coming from the event organizers.

With this event in the books........Many thanks to the folks who helped set-up on Saturday, set-up and tear-down on Sunday, and set-up and tear-down and put-away on Monday. Although I was "behind the scenes" and saw some of the challenges.....I don't think those were noticeable by the drivers.....so, kudos to the smart folks on-site to minimize the various hiccups. These were "just normal issues".

To name a few names of key folks this weekend: JaneV on waivers, JediB, Emanuel, JaredM, Dennis, BrianG on Registration, GregL, and I'm sorry if I missed anyone. Thanks to y'all for the efforts this weekend.

Thanks to Jon Ross for his liaison role with Parkland to make this event happen. And thanks for bringing all of the auto tech students as well. I met many of them and they seemed super excited to be there and participate.

Now, on to the Sept 23-24 event at Rantoul..........indeed........

Great event with very few issues!

I'm pretty sure some of the many first timers are now hooked so I look forward to seeing them at Rantoul next event as well.

Here's a couple short videos of drone footage taken from a co-worker if anyone is interested. (Disclaimer: The pilot properly requested and was given permission to fly this at the event and he has the proper certification/license to do so)
