I'm going, staying in the Embassy suites in downtown indy thurs, fri, and saturday night. We are going to go for the pit walk on thursday and we have the regular track passes where you don't have a seat but you can go anywhere and find some grass to sit on. Last time I went I know a lot of other people went too but I never saw them and I think that should change this year. I think we should meet up some time after the day or maybe even hang out at the track. since we'll all be scattered everywhere I don't think hanging out during the race would be the best way to get all your money's worth if you have a seat ticket but maybe during some of the other races we can all get together. Also, would anyone want to meet somewhere for dinner after qualifying or practice?

I may be down for some dinner Fri/Sat. Not sure if I will be around the track or not for the events but we are running in the IPS race so maybe.

I would come over on saturday but don't have a place to stay lined up, and would rather watch the UFC event on ppv. Sunday should be a lot of fun! I sat at T6-Terrace last year, really good seats but looking forward to adding the front straight to my view! Best of both worlds, biggest passing opportunity and the infield. :)

Race was pretty exciting, even tho kimi never passed masa and alonso never got around hamilton they made some decent efforts.
the guy on TV went NUTS saying hamilton 'blocked' alonso by making him try and pass on the straigt instead of giving him the position.......what a :censored:

yeah our seats kicked ass. i will definitely get seats for the same section next year. i want to buy them the day they go on sale this time so we are on the top row and get some more breeze... they really cram you in those bleechers and it was very warm.
yeah kimi was much faster than massa the whole race... i wonder why he can't launch the ferrari. that is the second race in a row he fucked himself by not getting away as quickly as the BMWs or massa. i also wonder why he was on the hard tires for the first stint when the rest of the front runners were on softs. i would guess that he was heavier on fuel than the rest of them but was held up by heidfeld and was pulled in early.
and yet another race where alonso is PISSED. if mclaren keeps this shit up i don't think he will be there for very long.
i have some kickass pictures that i will post up as soon as i get them. we were dumping our pictures onto my friends laptop every day so he is going to burn them to a DVD and give them to me today (~3 gigs or so of pics). so i will get those up ASAP.

the only explanation I can offer for whats going on is this:
Hamilton is just as good apparantly, and much more personable, alot of things I have heard point to Alonso being a prick and annoying to deal with.
And they are helping hamilton and their own team make history. Never understood why Alonso left the team he was anyways, seemed like they had a good thing going!

the weather was amazing. Thank god for the clouds right when the race started, that made my day! It was still hot as balls the rest of the time though.
I was a little disappointed that kimi didn't do better. But I guess those 4 are all pretty good and the cars are a good match as well so I can't be too upset with how he finished.
Honestly, I would rather go to the Canadian GP next year than indy, but I probably won't have the money for that so oh well. I just don't like indy as a track. The only place for passing is turn one and that makes for a very boring race where the only passing takes place in the pits and with f1 becoming more and more of a time trial and less of a race this track just exacerbates this problem.
We rented one of those kangaroo tv's because we are never in view of a screen and it's hard to see any more than 3 corners when you don't have seats and it was a godsend. The whole race was 10x more interesting and we could see everything that was going on. It cost 100 bucks for the whole weekend but it worked for all the racers(even the support races), qualifying and practice and we could look at lap times and pick who's car we wanted to ride along in. It combined the ease and information you get watching the race at home with the excitement of being there. If you ever find yourself wishing you knew what was going on or if you could see what a driver was doing on another part of the track or if you missed a wreck I would recommend shelling out the extra cash.
Also, we went there on Thursday and went to the interviews that they were doing. We got to see most of the drivers(missed ferrari :( and left when speed came out). I caught one of the autographed hats the drivers were throwing. It was Rosbergs and I'm going to frame it or something, lol. Too bad he didn't finish. We also got up close and personal with Hamilton later that day when we were stuck in traffic in front of his hotel as he was arriving. There wasn't a big crowd cuz it was thursday so he was more relaxed and I yelled good luck and a couple other things from the drivers seat of my moms van(classy). He waved, winked and gave us the thumbs up. I really enjoyed hearing him talk during the interview because he truly seems like a real person and not a d-bag like alonso or others. I can definately get behind him winning especially since he's turning everything upside down in the sport but I still cheer for ferrari and Kimi first.

The reason alonso left renault was because his contract was up and at the time there was a conflict between the constructors and F1. Renault was one of the biggest proponents for a breakout series and at the time i appeared they were going to leave F1. Alonso wanted to be an F1 world champion and not the winner of a break out series and McLaren assured him that they would be staying in Formula One... so that is why he left.
i just read a quote from Alain Prost and his opinion is that Hamilton spent thousands of hours in the simulator and is a very smooth driver which makes it easier for McLaren to set up his car. But that does not disguise the fact that Alonso is a "super driver, a great, great driver."
i think that renault probably had alonso's car dialed in exactly how he needed it to be in order to win and mclaren may not have figured that out quite yet.
Hamilton is a great driver but i don't think he is better than kimi or alonso.
Scortboy, if being a "d-bag" means you don't like a driver then you must really hate schumacher.

Everybody makes mistakes, but there have been a LOT more mistakes from Alonso this year than either kimi or hamilton. How many off-track excursions has alonso had in the last two races?? I can remember atleast three, which could have cost him the USGP and got him passed by Sato. To be fast is one thing, but that hardly counts when you can't keep it on the road.
Maybe Hammy is doing a better job with the team in tuning the car during practice?
Even when Kimi is reliable, I hardly seem him finish better than massa. I thought kimi would do a lot better this year. I think his best chance vs massa will be in the rain.

Maybe Hammy is doing a better job with the team in tuning the car during practice?
i think that is exactly the case.
This is also a transition year for both kimi and alonso. they are getting used to a new car and a new team. this is the hamiltons first year in F1 and it is amazing he is doing so well but he is not used to driving a particular style of car. he has come into the sport with a clean slate so to speak.
i am not saying that it is easier for hamilton but it is a different experience for him. kimi and alonso have new aero, new technical directors, and new engineers that do not know what the car needs to be for the their respective driving styles. barachello went though the same thing when we first went to honda. he had to try and learn to left foot brake (which he did not do in the ferrari) and eventually they just changed brakes to the same ones he had at ferrari.
and i have no idea what is going on with alonso... he lost a second from dropping his tire off the track in indy and went off like 4 times in the first chicane in montreal. he just messed up... nothing else to say.
i am just pissed that mclaren did not have their new found reliability in the years past because with a reliable car we could very well be talking about the 2 time world champion Kimi Räikkönen. i am interested to see what changes happen next year once kimi is settled in maranello and if (fingers crossed) ross braun comes back next year. i think next year will be his year if braun returns.

All of my friends and I have been saying exactly this since the second race. It pisses me off that ferrari has turned into the exact same thing mclaren used to be last year. Mclaren(actually hamilton might've said it, not sure) said it themselves in formula 1 magazine that their newest chassis is the best one they've had ever. Plus Kimi has just had bad luck this year in general. I can't believe how well he did in the Canadian gp with his rear aero blocked by a piece of carbon fiber(can't believe they left that shit on track so long, should've called yellow a lot earlier). Plus Kimi has been only slightly more accident prone than Hamilton. The only mistakes I saw from him this whole weekend was the launch and he went wide one time in the first couple turns towards the end and that lost him his run on Massa. He went from a 0.43(can't go much closer and still be able to get a run for a pass) to a 0.94. Kimi just needs to be a little bit faster in qualifying(he wasn't ever close to as fast as Hamilton until his first few laps during the race).
Hamilton is owning everyone on time trials, plus he knows how to pass. The only thing that holds him back from making a ballsy move on someone is the team telling him not to pass alonso(not in those exact words) or bad pit strategy for him(but good for alonso).
There's a really cool article in formula one magazine that is all about Kimi Raikkonen. There were a few things in there that I think were pretty funny/interesting. They said that Kimi only has only had 40 car races ever. The article also talks about some things that he's done that makes him different than a lot of the drivers. Here's what the end of the article says
"Delinquent? A bit strong? Well, you should remember what Kimi did just before flying to Australia. While all his rivals were taking it easy in Melbourne -- getting used to the time zone, doing a bit of light training, playing a bit of tennis, having the odd massage -- Kimi was in his native Finland, racing snowmobiles against 200 of the world's quickest, most experienced snowmobiling gods, wrestling 130bhp, 100mph mega ski-doos over icy yumps and bumps, pitting raw nerves against the most unforgiving snowscapes you can imagine. And he was doing so under the disguise of the alias 'James Hunt'. Delinquent? You bet. Uncontrollable, more like. Oh... and by the way, he won the 500-mile, two-day event. Unbelievable."
