Looking for another codriver? :D

I got lucky today and got to drive this bad boy!!!! :D :D :D :D

I lost to Kerry but it was his car and I'm not used to 450bhp and tetronic shifting. He said he just got some race rubber and is planning on fitting it soon with some r-comps...I think I might have to make love to that thing once it's got R's. Since it's AWD, it's got a lot of understeer like mine so I was familiar with that portion of the handling but the tetronic shifting wasn't very user friendly. I accidently bumped it in the back sweeper and it went into 3rd and I couldn't shift down for another two turns (you'll see why tomorrow).

It was a freaking blast though!!!

I think I had my fill for the weekend. Good day. It was kind of crazy that a guy drove from CT to run.

I didn't see CT in the cards...but I did see A LOT of Indiana addresses...

who was from CT??

Sam. He took FTDi with the Tallon. He is going to Indiana tomorrow to autox there. He said he has been to more than 200 events across 30 states. I was impressed.

I recognized that car when I saw it...I'm pretty sure he was in SportsCar for DS at the nationals.

200 events in 30 states...must be nice!!!!

The Parkland team will be there, assuming the weather holds out.

Crap I didn't even realize there was an event this weekend!!! Thought there wouldn't be one with GASS next weekend.

Oh well, at least I got all my braking issues sorted out yesterday. Took 4 hours though.

What did you end up doing?

Today was a blast in A-stock, we all kept trading first place back and forth between me, Pete Gossett, and Greg L (Vette GS)

But I got FTDI-S (street tire class) and I beat kerry, wooot! Today was fun, can't wait to get some good tires. Had a lot of fun in the battles. Pete, it looks like we will have the same battle for the divisional title! haha will have to bring our A-game

Who got FTD and FTDi?

dnace

FTDI went to a mod car FMod I think and FTDI went to Ross of course haha

I told Ross he might get FTD today. I guess the FM guys showed up. He was running very fast yesterday. It looked like he was going to run a faster raw time until my last run. Of course he beat me on index, freaking stock classes.......
He was running 275 A6's on all four corners. I'm amazed the stock fronts can hold that much rubber.

lets just say those tires are pretty much done for the season. I don't know if I could go through that much money haha.

FM theoretically got FTDI, Ross has a wet track for part of his runs so I am sure he would have done better though.

I would never run A6's without being able to adjust camber. The right front was starting to show cord yesterday.

I think that was more from squeezing a 275 onto an 8" wheel than the lack of camber.

mmm, maybe not. My 225's on a 7.5 are corded on the outside now. I actually was rolling over half way to the rim and I tried everything from running 28lbs to 44lbs and never could get them to rollover correctly. Since I got my new coilovers on, I should be getting good rollover now. We'll see next weekend though...

A6's don't have reinforced sidewalls like the V710's. That is why they are lighter. This means the A6's need more pressure and more camber to keep them from rolling over.

I am aware of the special pressure and camber requirements of the A6. While camber may have helped this tire, I still contend that the primary issue is mounting a 275 tire on a wheel that is a full inch narrower than Hoosiers minimum recommended spec. The tire is cupped severely on the edge by squeezing it onto the narrow wheel, so once the tire rolls over, it rides on an edge rather than a smooth transition to sidewall. I would bet the stronger V710's in the same size would have suffered the same fate.

WE should convince him to buy some and find out. I will be getting my alignment on Thursday!!!! 1.3 deg front camber 2.4 rear camber and .4-.5 rear toe (have to decide) and 6deg caster if I can get it with that camber.

I am with Marty on this one..........been there had that issue before

I only say this because they were running low 30's tire pressure. I'm guessing this along with the narrow wheel was what caused it.................275's on an 8 inch rim? My 285's barely fit on my 9.5 inch rims.

dnace - Thanks again for letting me beat on your car, that was one of the most fun & competitive days I've had in a long time!!!

I actually kind of liked how much it was sliding around on the street tires....it was a bit more like Rally-x than Auto-x. :D

Can't wait for this weekend!

hey no problem, chance are if you aren't going fast at least you are having fun. And if it doesn't scare the crap out of you, you aren't going fast enough. Hopefully we can take Greg this weekend!

I know this is an old(ish) thread but i have been trying to figure it out also so thought i'd give some input!

I think that was more from squeezing a 275 onto an 8" wheel than the lack of camber.

Not sure if you are referring to my situation or not but i ran through a set of front hoosiers in two events (the edges chorded really fast). This was beacuse after fitting the new shocks with Pete I didn't have time to get an alignment yet, and found out i was running some insane front toe. After the alignment, and a bump in pressure to 48, no problems at all.

...I tried everything from running 28lbs to 44lbs and never could get them to rollover correctly...

I had been running ~44psi up front and ~42psi on back, but now set it to 48 on front to avoid rollover.

I only say this because they were running low 30's tire pressure. I'm guessing this along with the narrow wheel was what caused it.................275's on an 8 inch rim? My 285's barely fit on my 9.5 inch rims.

Again, not sure if you are referring to my tires, but they have never been below 42. The 275s actually weren't hard to fit, and after seeing all the RX8s at Milwaukee last weekend with 285 hoosiers all around on same size wheels, i think i might do that next. Maybe then i'll catch ya haha.

I must of had bad info. I would say a lot of toe would destroy a tire faster than anything. I'm curious if you would get any more contact patch out of 285's. Wouldn't the wider tire just have more rubber not on the ground? Maybe it would help in the corners. I know Hoosier recommends a 10" wheel for the 285's.

You caught me a long time ago on index.......but I can tell you're the kind of guy that doesn't believe in handicaps ;) Nice driving the other day by the way.

Yes that is what I was worried about... probably won't attempt 285s until there is nothing else i can do to the car. OR, i'll just skip right to 315s... when i get a vette someday! And you're right - handicaps are no good - especially with the broadness of modified classes.

Are you going to the Grissom Divisional event?

I probably won't make it back out until the 18th. Thinking about getting a little toe out up front to help the turn in.... might not if it destroys the A6's. These tire are expensive.
