So I picked up a set of Phoenix Gold RSd 6.5" components for pretty cheap and wanted to install them. Well... I found out the hard way that the stock speaker baskets aren't a big enough diameter to fit a true 6.5" speaker so I had to wait. In the meantime I went ahead and deadened/sealed my doors.

Starting off, remove the door panel(obviously) and vapor barrier. Liberally apply sound deadening.

I didn't put as much on the outside skin as some have, but did double up behind the speaker.

For this to make a difference, we have to seal that huge hole in the door. I decided that I wanted a removable panel there so I wouldn't have to screw with cutting out and replacing deadening should I have to get in there. I used Aluminum flashing cut to shape with lots of deadener applied.

FINALLY, I got the speaker rings made so I removed the OEM tweeters

Now the issue is that the OEM tweeters have a thread in the magnet to hold them to the little metal bracket. The Phoenix Golds, do not. I figured out that the OEM grilles would not interfere with the operation of the new tweeters and keep them locked in place very nicely, but it required cutting down the two plastic posts which previously held the tweeter bracket.

After cutting the posts. Perfect! As a side bonus, I think that the aiming this provides works very well for these tweeters(well, the best for the OEM mounting points.)

My custom CNC cut rings from Elemental Designs. I drew these up so that I could use the stock mounting holes. They still need a tweak or two(to the drawing) but I would highly recommend these to anyone. I will have to let ED know about my changes.

With everything buttoned back up, you can't even tell there is an aftermarket stereo installed. The real magic comes when you crank it and there is BASS coming from the front speakers. The OEM's liked the deadened doors but these are far superior already; I can't wait to hear them with the amp hooked up!

Got to love the thin Honda doors! I butchered up the OEM speaker basket pretty badly when installing some 6.5's. Now I have 5 1/4 up front.

Looks like a good and clean install! What sound deadening material did you use?

Great speakers i am loving mine! not the best tweeters but thats what you get for $80

Ive had mine around 120wrms each for about a year and a half now daily. Going to deaden the doors this summer instead of getting new comps lol

I used eDead on the doors. It was about 1/4 the price of Damplifier or Dynamat and works pretty well.
