i ordered these last night. i haven't really heard much about them other than what i read on-line. it was a toss-up between these, khumo MX's or another set of azenis. i currently have hankook snow tires on the WRX and they are great so i figured i would check these out. and if they burn up before the dragon i will just buy a new set because they are so cheap. $368 to my door.

I had a set on my SRT-4, great tire for AutoX except the sidewall is a little softer than the Azenis, but it makes them a little more comfortable to drive everyday. I had nearly 100 runs on them and a decent amount of street miles until they started to get right around the wear bars. They will last a lot longer than you think for a 200 treadwear tire.
They were great even when they were bald and I had to drive through a mini-monsoon.

Let us know how they perform. I'm a cheap street tire (sumitomo) and r-compound kinda guy. I've already surpased the ST rules so there's no going back for me unfortunately.

i had dreams of getting a set of daily tYres and a set of race tYres but this is a new project for me and i need to take care of brakes and suspension before i spend my money on a 2nd set of rims.
If they last me one summer or at least up untill the dragon i will be happy. i also have the set of my infamous spare tire azenis on the DSM (205/40/16) i can throw on in an emergency. i was thinking about picking up a set of stock WRX wheels and putting them on those to take two sets to the dragon... we will see.

I have a set of Sumitomo's on my car, 430 treadwear rating and they can still hold my going plenty fast (scream quite a bit though :D )
Also, where is a cheap place to have tires mounted at?

In B/N, I went to Owen Tire on Empire and they did the whole set of r-comps (mount/balance) for like $25 if memory serves. It was last year so it may have been a little more. They were the only place who could mount real wide/big tires supposedly.

I just ordered a set of these too. Supposedly they take longer to heat up but once they are they are competitive or better than azenis. we will see. These will be my daily driver tires.

owen tires is the place to go in B/N to get your tires put on. they are really good about doing wide tires on exspensive rims, and i believe they will do alignments to your specification for lowered cars. regardless of price it is a really good place to go.
I had these tires and was going to put them on the WRX but sold it and sent them back.
For the WRX at the time they were the best street legal autox tire and came in a 235 where as the falkens at the time could only be found in a 225.

have people crammed 235's on stock wheels?
if these die before the end of the summer (and i like them) i will probably pick up a set of the 225/50's

I've been thinking about ordering these in a 235 or 245 for my SRT and running in STU this year. As dnace said they are suppose to be decent and handle heat well(better than azensis) so I can use them on the track too. They are quite affordable when compared to rcomps and even re01r's. Anyone run these on the track b4? Heimbo...where they pretty sticky?

I currently have re05a's (140 treadwear) and will enjoy a longer lasting tire :)

They will fit the 235/40 on the sedan, they will not fit the wagon.

With 225/45/17's on 15lb Centerlines they were able to grip 2nd gear with rougly 250whp/260tq in my SRT-4, which was pretty good if you have had the FWD woes and you were in a straight line.:D
If you remember, when my car only had similar suspension mods and power to yours I was about 2 seconds slower than your r-compounds on a 60 second, which wasn't bad since you had a little more seat time then me.
I think it's the ideal street summer tire as it treads water better than the 615 because of the center groove.
They handle heat pretty well, but do take a little while to heat up.
Here's a comparison of times from the Winged Warrior 2 performance challenge. I was on these same Hankook street tires and came in 20th overall and wasn't ashamed to lose to cars like the AMS Flat Black Evil Evo and various other drivers with faster cars and more experience. I'm car #15

I said roughly as it never saw the dyno when it was done, but it trapped higher than alot of SRT-4's that were dynoed in that range. After I was done modding it was easily right around there and trapped 104.9mph.
Stage 1 (19psi 15-16 to redline), full turboback, intake, ported TB and intake mainfold (that's all I remember) was the setup that walked away from your DSM in its later years.;)

I think I'm probably going to pick up the z212s. I won't be running them on the street everyday but I will drive them to events and what not. Since I bought rims cheaper tires are looking good for this year and can always make the driver better and than I can go to some RA1's or slicks next year.
Any more opinions on the 212 are welcome. Thanks Dave!

i ran a 13.4 at 110 with 60psi of fuel pressure (FPR problems) and i had to shift at 5k. i turned down the fuel pressure and on the next run the shift fork snaped.
2.2 second 60ft. 13.8 e.t. on bald autoX tires. Try again...or do we have to get BWG to bench race for us.:D We are really "reelin' in the years" as ricers if we are talking about cars we will NEVer drive again lol.
jvb6806
03-27-2007, 04:54 PM
i couldnt' remember my exact times... i just looked it up. i ran a 13.7 @101 and a 1.7 60' with 60psi of fuel pressure. i may have exagerated a bit but i was still faster ;)
and unfortunatly your new car would kick my WRX's ass so we have nothing to argue about... for shame.

Anyways you will like the tires as they only thing that compares to them at their price is when the Kumho MX's go on sale at tire rack.

just let BWG look at that and we can get accurate dyno #'s
Let the bench racing begin, jim you might be surprised how fast a 02 - 05 stage 2 WRX can run. the fastest time I ever saw ws a 13.2, some 13.3 and a lot of 13.4 with traps in the 102 - 103mph range. A stage 2 WRX can trap only 98mph but still pull off a 13.8 due to a 1.8 60ft.

a mid 13 is still slow. my DSM was much faster than the 13.8 i ran that day. i was at 60psi of fuel pressure when i ran the 13.8 and i had to shift at 5k because it was sputtering because of all the fuel. the ass dyno would say my WRX is in the mid 13's, and that is where i thought it would be... but that is still slow IMO. i will be shooting for mid 13's this summer with a 1.8 60' on these new tires.

Personally I like Don Owens for exhausts and doing alignments but I go to Fairchilds for my tires and wheels. But then again I know everyone at both places and both always do a great job at a reasonable price.
Im looking at getting a set of Kumho AST's or Falken Grabber's as a daily driver tire that can still perform somewhat. I already have the AST's on the Civic and they did one excellent job in the winter. I never got stuck and had plenty of traction even for fwd.
jvb6806
03-28-2007, 07:45 PM
i ran the hankook iPike M/S tires over the winter and they did great (as you can tell from the signature). i was driving though 10" of snow with no problem.
i put the new tires on today... unfortunatly it is 50 and raining up here but they are definatly quieter than the snow tires, go figure, and they don't fold over like the iPikes did. i will let you know when i get them out on dry pavement. but so far i am happy with their wet traction.

Yeah those heavy tire and wheels kill ya, huh? :)
Seriously it does, I couldn't believe how much it slowed the car down. it was so much more rotational mass the car would bog off the line at the same rpm that I’d always take off at with the stockers.

it was actually decent up here so i got to go out and get a little heat into the tires. they was pleased at how they grabbed into a turn and how quite they were on the highway. they don't seem to fold over during my normal course of driving at 35psi (on ramps, and making a decently quick turn into my apt through traffic). when i got off the highway today i got out and felt the temp of the tire and they were still suprisingly cool. i think it is going to take quite a bit to get some heat into them but they do pretty well even when they are cold.
so i am guessing after one autoX run, or after a few twisties, they should be a pretty good tire. and also not burn off on me when i am driving to work. so thus far i would say they are a pretty good daily driving summer tire. it is just a little hard getting used to seeing my car with summer tires instead of the big knoby snow/mud tires... i lost that rally car effect.

Got my new set of Azenis 615s in ealier this week, now I just have to get the car out of the driveway and install them. I have been adament about getting a set of the new Azenis for some time, but can't find a set of the old Sports anywhere. Also I found a smoking deal on the 615s that beat the price on all the other competetors in this segment.
I do plan on getting a set of the Hankooks for my old Si though as my uncle has just about corded the Ecsta MXs that I had on it. And he does not want the harshness that the 615s will have vs the MX or the 212s.

my snow tires kicked shit up all over the sides of my car (note sig = pre mud flaps)... and i plan on rallyXing this summer so that is why i got them. i am also going to pick up a skid plate before the rallyX i have a few more suspension and braking this i need to do to the car before i spend money on rally stuff.
carl i have a set of 205/40/16 615 azenis on the stock DSM rims if you have a set of bare 16's for a honda. they look like donuts on the DSM but on a lowered honda i am sure they would be fine.
