I have been planning a trip to the Chicago Auto Show and CIR with a group friends.
If a date is finalized between Febuary 6th and the 18th with a start time after 2:00 at CIR I'm interested. I can bring a group of 4 to help get the group rate.

fizz, i need you to see this glass as half full. What weekend could we do this AND have your attendance?
I am trying to avoid a situation where I announce a weekend, you say no. I reschedule, you say no again, I recschedule again, you say no again... If you could just say what weekend DOES work for you, we can try to schedule around that.
For everybody interested, I need to know who is SERIOUS about going, and what Saturdays between now and March you are available. My proposed format for reply:
Screen name - Serious/Tire Kicker/Not Interested
Preferred dates: Month.Date
My example -
Hornswoggler - Serious
Preferred dates: Jan. 26th, Feb. 9th, 16th, or 23rd

tempting. That would need to be within the week, right? With all the recent winter expenses (xmas, snow tires, PS3, etc) I may not be baller enough to go twice this winter season... but maybe if we could get enough ppl that would go THIS saturday? Who would want to go on December 15th??

I might be sticking around till Chirstmas. I haven't spent a Chistmas with the fam since I was 18. Well one time I did when my stepfather died and my mums needed me there. So being the good son that every mother dreams about I should stay for the holiday. But Winter park is getting so much snow I don't want to miss any of these powder days.

Just throwing this out there for anybody interested...
Wisconsin Chapter BMW CCA is hosting a 60 minute enduro team race at CIR on Monday, December 31st. Teams can be 2 or 3 ppl, I believe cost is $200 per team:
http://www.badgerbimmers.org/main/karting2007.shtml
I have other plans that day/night so can't make it... but if anybody was going to take this up, will need to be a BMWCCA member.

no final date yet, still need to generate more interest. The grand prix is a minimum of 8 drivers... I want to find a date that atleast 10+ ppl say they are serious, incase anybody drops.

Conditional:
fizz (only in january)
badbu68 (must be a saturday)
Chefasaurus (must be a sunday)
Kapoosh1 (must be a sunday)
NewScooby (only if it falls within some wacky date range and time restrictions)
We have reached the minimum of 8. If the date we pick is in alignment with the conditionals, we may get more. I may be driving in a CIR enduro Feb. 2nd, might not hurt to get in some practice before then!
Since some people want saturday and some people want sunday, its going to have to be one or the other. With travelling and all, I much prefer saturday (opens up more options for post-karting chicago activities). I am going to suggest January 26th (this is a saturday). My apologies to anybody this leaves out, it is just not possible to pick one date that everybody is happy with.
I'm in for the 26th. I asked about young drivers last time. My brother was 13. It was a no go.

original post has been overhauled to reflect the most current information.
we will need 8 confirmed drivers before setting this in stone. Since these dates can be booked one month in advance, I am setting December 26th as the deadline for signing up.
I may require pre-payment for this event, either in partial or in full.
Give me a date and if I'm off that weekend I'll come.

With so few confirmed and I will be up there Feb. 2nd for a NASA Midwest karting enduro, I think I am going to postpone this event. We will go again, for sure, just bad timing I guess.
For those possibly interested in the karting enduro, there might be room. official thread HERE (http://www.nasaforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=19203). The event is 3 hours of on-track action, split between 3 drivers (one hour per driver). Cost is $145 per person. If you are serious, check with Brian Domont (http://www.nasaforums.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=3627) ASAP.

This is tempting as I have a consert the night before. What team are you on?
Hornswoggler
12-17-2007, 11:50 AM
I am on team #7 (but could be subject to change)
if we get a solid group of three, i may be able to find a sub. I dont know those other two guys, but pretty sure they have more competitive karting experience than I do.
Anybody interested in forming a team? Not sure if nasa membership is required or not (I am one, so should be able to get a team together)

you seriously want EVERYONE to prepay a month ahead of time?
or just 'friends'
wry and my dad are both technically sisynet'ers members :D
but seriously. Its a bad time to ask for a pre-pay, a week before xmas....just a thought.
I'll prepay if you want a bit of a guarentee. As long as 8 prepay we are golden right? don't they just need 24 horu notice of the actual #?

I'm ok with it, but some people can't know for sure they are free 100% till much closer, and prepay keeps them from being able to go.

others may not be able to
hence my question about if 8 prepaying is enough

IIRC, we can ADD ppl up to 24 hours before the event, but to drop # attending needs two weeks notice (to avoid penalty). Working back from this date, IF I require pre-pay, it would be due by January 7th (gives me time to put the money together and send a check to CIR).
I am still undecided to collect in advance or not, but my statement be willing definately applies and it may be asked to send payment in advance. "Friends" or inactive forum members must pre-pay. We can thank scortboy's friend for all this.

I'm ok with it, but some people can't know for sure they are free 100% till much closer, and prepay keeps them from being able to go.
This is EXACTLY why I am requiring pre-pay!!!!
You need to be 100% committed to attending, or pay the financial penalty. If they can't pre-pay three weeks in advance, I am not going to take the financial risk for them. Sorry, but that situation might be best suited for an arrive-n-drive event.

so.
we prepay our EIGHT people.
then if we add people the day before, no one is out $$$
correct?
quit not answering my question directly, this is not a tech support phone call :amad:
:D
I'm sure its best to get as many as possibly to prepay, but as long as we hit our magic #.....
we can add people a few days before hand.......?

I would rather sign one contract and not have to ammend it for people who are non-committal. Doing the floating thing (variable head count) just causes more work for me, which I am not interested in doing.
If I do decide on pre-pay, I should make it consistent for everyone. So far, I have not organized a karting trip where somebody didn't back out within the two week window. Pre-pay should avoid that stress and reduce my financial liability for no-shows.
If somebody would rather manage it so we can all avoid the pre-pay thing, I would be glad to let you. Just be prepared to provide CIR a credit card number so they can put the $850 hold on it for a month. :)

gotcha.
didnt realize how that all worked out.
I'll talk to Wry and my dad.
you would want it by when exactly?
Hornswoggler
12-19-2007, 04:45 PM
Jan. 7th would be the pre-pay date.
I need to first secure the date with CIR, they take them one month in advance so after xmas I will snag the date with them. Once I get the contract signed, etc. I'll collect payment. Jan 7th would be the latest I need payment by.
None of this in stone yet...
IF I require pre-pay, it would be due by January 7th (gives me time to put the money together and send a check to CIR).
No problem with pre-pay...remind me if the deadline sneaks up and I haven't got it to you....

maybe hit up Texas de brazil on the way back?? Just had some last night, review coming soon. Not bad w/ 50% off coupon (bill was $21, and the filet was good!)

no way I am spending 50 bucks on dinner after I drop a 100 bucks go karting.
hell, I'd prefer the cheapest thing we can all stand!(sliders anyone :D)

Barth, but yeah I'm not spending $50 on a meal.

I would not spend $50 for texas de brazil either. All I am saying is that with a coupon, and being up there already, its a bit more reasonable. Any post-karting dinner activity would be optional (of course). G-STAPA is not for everyone.

We are up to 12 people. Everybody will get in three qualifying races, but only 10 will make it to the final race. This means one of two things:
1. The two slowest qualifiers will have to sit for the final race
or
2. Everybody can pay an addtl. $10 (total = $120) for the last two to have a consolation race.
$120 is a lot for two people to have the track to themselves. I would prefer to see a third option: everybody pitches in a few bucks to buy those two an "arrive-n-drive" race, where they can mix it up with other people not part of the party. I will ask about this when I call.
I am requesting track 2 in the clockwise direction. This is a favorite in a chicagoracers.com CIR poll. I have not driven it yet but it seems much preferred over track 1 clockwise.

We are IN for January 26th! Check-in will be 2:45 PM. We should be done and out of there by 5:00 PM (can go find some dinner afterwards if anybody is up for it). I have requested track 2 clockwise, they will try their best to accomidate this but we will not know for sure until the day of.
Cost for the karting is $85 per person and I have to pay ahead of time. This is different than it used to be, so I will have to collect payments in advance. You can mail personal check to:
Collin Mizeur
6 White Oak Court
Washington, IL 61571
I can also accept paypal from bank account (I think credit card transactions cost extra?). cmizeur@verizon.net. Be sure and mention your screen name w/ payment... although I know most all of you.
This includes a consolation race so EVERYONE will participate in a final race. Knowing this, does anybody else (digitalseance?) want to register as well? I can bump up the # attending... knowing there is a consolation race, I think it would be fun to have 20 ppl going!
If you want added but not on the roster already, let me know ASAP.
Time for a caravan and post-karting dinner thread...

I was able to negotiate our consolation race to be $5 a person instead of $10... new price is $85 per person!!
I found an error on their web page with the old price of $5, lol. They fixed the link but are nice enough to honor my finders fee. :)

Easy to say that now, but when you are putting together an event of 13 people (like last time) and three are sitting out for the final race, it sucks.
I asked if they were having arrive and drive that day, but they might be booked solid so we can't count on it.

CIR may do something like that. Maybe 8 in the final and 4 in the consolation? we can ask once we get there.

Ok, we have 13 people on target for this event. Broken has confirmed with me that he and his friend are still "in".
I can still add people up until January 24th so if anybody still wants in, let me know and we can work something out. Let's see if we can get some more people to go... up to 20 would be cool.
I heard more about the consolation format this week. Both the consolation and final race are full, 10 people each race. Consolation is between everybody that didnt make the cut to the final, so top 3 qualifiers will sit out while the bottom 10 fight for the 4-10th positions in the final. End result means more seat time for most of those going!
