I'll be in Galena next weekend and am likely done for the season but may opt to catch the year end event in November if the itch needs scratching. I ran 17th out of 42 (less than .6 out of 8th) in street tire class after indexing with most of the cream of our class showing up for points. On the last run, I overcooked it into a near 720. So much for pushing the envelope.

I am planing on coming Sunday only as I have to work on Saturday. IF my brakes arrive by Friday ( ordered them today ) I will be bringing the Wagon for some STX fun!
I do have one question though....
I would like to bring my Girlfriends niece for a ride-along ( during fun run of course ). I kind of forgot the logistics involved that would allow her to get in the car.

How old is she? If under 18, would need a minor waver signed by both parent/gaurdians. Not sure what the age cutoff is for being allowed in the grid or for ride-alongs.

Well I guess she cannot go..... parents are seperated and live 1200 miles from each other.
Are there other options? My girlfriend would be there as her guardian. Could I get a waiver signed by just her mother? And yes she is 12 ( going on 21 ).

09-17-2007, 11:22 PM
I think the primary custody holder is sufficient if they're divorced. It's in the Solo rules that you can download from scca.com. I'm sure your GF would have to sign somewhere too. I do know that if you do have the mother sign it prior to coming and you print off the form, bring 2 copies as the region must keep one for the records.
350ZTRACK
09-18-2007, 05:36 AM
One parent can sign, but if they are not there it must be notorized. They must also state on the form that they are a single parent with custody. PM me with your e-mail and I will send a copy of the minor waiver. It must be printed in color and you must have 2 copies. Pete

My wife used my Mustang to visit some friends last night (instead of the van or Elantra) and commented she hit 80mph on an onramp before she knew it and it "goes rather fast with little effort". Further, she decided to take some corners a bit fast just to see what the car would do. I'm really eager to get her on the course since I think she'd be a natural at autocross (fearless, perceptive, fun loving, generally good at sports). Now, if we just had on-track daycare I could team-drive with her. If nothing else, she looks cool in the car. Anyhow, hope everyone else has fun this weekend!

Just a reminder to all those who are planning on attending. Remember the "If CCSCC were to start earlier" thread? Keep that in mind as you plan for the event. We need people to get there early to help us get things rolling. I know there will be at least 4 or 5 people there at 7:30am but it takes more than that.
After you get there and get setup find me, Barry, Greg, or Pete and ask if there's something you can help us with.
goodee
09-20-2007, 10:12 AM
So let me get this straight, and I'm not trying to "poo poo" this because I still think starting earlier is a good idea; if you get more help around 7:30am or 8am setting up, thus getting ahead of schedule, you are going to send the first car off earlier than noon?
Those people that have no car prep and show up at 10:30 or 11 may be a little upset that you've started already without any advanced notice.
I guess what I'm getting at is you either bite the bullet and say you're starting early or you don't.
I'm not going to be there Saturday (prior plans), but I'm almost positive I'll be there Sunday with Marty. We are bringing our spouses so they can join in the fun; at least that's the plan for now.
Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.

Daily Event Schedule
Registration: 9:00am - 10:30am
Late Registration: 10:30 - 11:00am ($10.00 late registration fee)
Tech Inspection: 9:15am - 10:45am
Rookie Walkthrough: 10:45am
Mandatory Course Walkthrough: 11:15am
Drivers' Meeting: Follows Course Walkthrough
First Car Off: 11:45am
That I am aware, this is the schedule that we will try to follow as the registration/start times have not been officially changed, just discussed. The November autox will push all times back one hour, of course, because of the whole "dark at 5pm" consideration, as it has been every year.

Moody posted the schedule for the 2007 season. We cannot change that now, but expect changes for next year!
I don't think we are doing the mandatory course walk. We've thrown that out. It is not a requirement for SCCA sanctioning so if you don't walk the course, it's your own damn fault!
Registration will close at 10:30 so I'd like to see the driver's meeting at 11. I'm a pawn in this so it's all up to the event chairman and what he wants to do.
marty

thank gawd for getting rid of the mandatory course walk. unless you're a fast walker and get to the front of the crowd, the walkthrough is entirely worthless...
Z3papa
09-20-2007, 11:22 AM
Oh the headaches of getting people to change old habits. The entire concept of "late registration from 10:30-11:00 explains why there are no cars off before noon. Assuming there is tech afterward and the person then goes to a driver's meeting, you can not seriously think cars will be off much before noon.
The concept of having rookie walkthrough is good but having mandatory course walk through is a complete waste of time. Can't see anything and all you are doing is add more walking onto someone who has probably walked the course 2-4 times before. Really changing the format is probably something best done at the beginning of the year when people are on notice that a new format is adopted.

I commend you for trying to get the first car off at 11:45. Even though it's only 15 minutes or so earlier it's a start.
Good luck with the late registration fee. We tried that back in the late 90's with HISCC and it didn't go over so well. Actually it went over rather bad, people up and left and took some of those who had already registered with them (after they had gotten their money back). It was ugly!
As I recall it was the last year for those particular board members as well. We all resigned.

It's a tough balance between trying to have a laid back atmosphere (why some people come to our events over Chicago) and wanting to keep things moving and efficient.
HISCC's president at the time (no names, although most of you probably wouldn't know him) probably was a little too heavy-handed with the late fee back then. I was on his side however since being late is being late and everyone was told waaaay in advance.
Hopefully things have changed since then.

I'm all for laid back. I mean this is not my day job and its out of enjoyment but even being laid back doesn't mean you can't be on time. Chicago comes off more serious and organized out of necessity of running 150-200 cars but even then people can joke around and enjoy themselves.

Me: Read the rules man, I want one too and I'm in street prepared. I'm a clas ABOVE you!
Him: but that doesn't make sense, blah blah, bitch bitch
Me: That silver WRX over there has sway bars, and a tune with a BOV; he's in SM b/c he knows he needs to be. You can stay in you class since you've already started your runs but for future reference, that's an SM mod. Like it or not, it's the truth.

from what i understand, the idea is that some factory BOV's leak a little. and if you put an aftermarket BOV on you may hold more boost to redline which would give you more HP. hence your car is no longer stock.

I remember when I first started and was considering mods, some people said that if you were caught or no one made a big deal about it, I could still run in B stock. Despite that, I slotted into ASP because of springs and other mods and was clearly not competitive. While I have improved as a driver, the fact of the matter is you need to own what you done to your car and put it in the right class. It's less about winning and more about being honest with yourself and others.

The speed limit on base is 20mph, so there is something wrong with nearly doubling that (35mph). The black Audi was going well over 35mph in the parking lot as it left (which is zoned 15mph and was the scene of a wreck involving an attendee earlier this year). Seeing as 80% of our events are held at Rantoul and our use of the facilities being contingent on those in attendence being respectful while they are visiting the town, we tend to watchdog for any who would place their own cheap thrills over our privlage to use the site.

Okay well you keep thinking. In the short time i was there I saw a black crx fly down that road numerous times along with other people coming from the bathroom, taking the corner like it was pregame...bitch about them? no. Come on now, lets be real....
You want to find someone that will issue me that ticket for speeding in your airbase? Go ahead and do it, i'll accept...along with 100's of other people.....you really suck at arguing you know.

Read prior post up. I admitted to speeding. Who was the kid with the gti running full boost leaving that joint 2 times.
It is safer to get on it in the open parking lot than run the shit out of all those cars that are not even close to track worthy while people are standing 20 feet from some cones?
Come on man if you dont like me its cool.
But to make the aqusations and other shit is absolutely ridiculous.

The site is rented from the village of Rantoul, so anything negative even remotely connected with our event happening within the city limits reflects poorly on us (wether or not it is either intended or deserved). People are upset as they feel this should have been common sense. I don't think anyone in charge would be adverse to you guys attending future events as long as you refrain from such actions in the future.

Its cool. I hate argueing as well but how is 40 or so with 14" slotted disc and 4 piston brakes going straght unsafe?
The worst thing that would have happened would have been me slamming into the silver audi in front of me.
There was not any other cars within hundreds of feet from me.

You shouldnt start retarded b.s. on the internet if you dont feel like arguing.
I think the points made are valid. Is your car honestly track worthy....How about those people standing on the track. Are these daily driven "racecars" inspected before they head out on the track hitting 50mph within a close vicinity of people. Tossing your car around corners with people nearby is oh so much more safe than getting on the gas in a straight line for what the whole 500 ft?
I saw plenty of cars hit 40mph easily on that road. Even saw someone slide around the corner leaving the bathroom coming back to do some racing in his sweet autocross racecar.
It is a pointless argument because the odds really arent in your favor if you think about the points mentioned.
Pointless argument, it should be over. He got on the gas hard in his car....shoot him. He didnt burn out, slide, or even chirp his tires. In all reality I got on it harder than he did...sorry you just couldnt hear my ferocious stock exhuast.

I'm not sticking up for him at all. You should check your sources, I was infront of jason until we got out of town...then the gumball rally began, different story. But i never crossed the 35mph mark on my speedo, and correct me if i'm wrong here....but if he was no farther back than 100ft of my 35mph moving car...how fast could he honestly have been going? I dont see a problem going 35mph,....do you?
lol brian, you were at the end of the fence when he floored it from the beginning of the fence until he reached you. He was going well over 50, and admitted to speeding already.

What is it with you and arguing online? Don't you have anything better to do? You both know it was a dumb and unsafe thing to do - this summer 2 cars hit each other in that parking lot doing about 30 and one passenger went to hospital. There are no kids, spectators, other random cars on the course and most importantly no 25mph speed limit, and everyone is trained and expecting cars to come flying around. Give it up.

Well, it wasn't me who deleted it.
Every car must go through a techincal inspection. You didn't see this because it occurs from 9:30am til 10:30am before the cars hit the course. They all must be approved and deemed safe to run as well as the helmets that people bring. I had to decline one helmet on saturday b/c it didn't meet the standards. Larz got declined in tech because of an upper ball joint issue on his civic. We DO turn people away for safety reasons.

I'm not sitting here trying to prove anyone wrong about autocrossing...I just think its a little over the edge all the freaking out on someone for getting on the gas a little bit in a completely safe way when one of those cars could very easily lose control and kill someone (as seen in videos). My point being that at any time a part could break when tossing your car into a turn at speed, which could severly hurt/kill someone. I only argued because I felt like everyone freaking out wasn't necessary. The autox itself I dont care how safe and controlled it is...is more dangerous than getting on it in second gear leaving a parkinglot in a straight line down a road. that is all.

You're missing the point. If you leave the site "enthusiastically" then you're reflecting bad on us. The cops are notified we're there and are always on the lookout for us violating the laws. There has already been one accident in the said parking lot this year. We're doing our best to prevent another.
It may not be as "safe" but it's in a controlled INSURED environment. If someone looses it and hurts somebody while on course at the autox, the SCCA will pay for medical bills (limit varies depending on guest or member) because it's an insured event. If the same happens on the parking lot, you're on your own.
Just do us a favor, if you come back then when you enter the area or when you leave the area, drive slow and sensibly. If you can't do that, then please do not come back. We yell at participants when they drive too fast just the same and talk about it during our mandatory drivers meeting at and before each event.

I'm hesitant to get into the rant session but I'll add my 2 cents. In every autocross I have been to either at Rantoul or Joliet and every other place, there is an annoucement to drivers and spectators about doing exactly what you are talking about here -- driving fast on or just off the event site. The air base has a ridiculously low speed limit which is there for a reason -- because they know there are places highly prone to accidents like the one that happened last year right outside the bathrooms. Event sites get to make and enforce their rules for a reason. They can choose to not extend the site to the group. Groups all the time are losing sites because of people jacking around. As for comparing the driving on the autocross course to this driving, that's just plain stupid. The safety considerations put in place to assure safety of the drivers (tech inspection, helmets, multiple workers at each corner, radios, flags, course arrangement for safe corner stations, etc) and co-workers is so much greater than what the average driver encounters on the street. Stop justifying a stupid decision and simply say, "ok, I/He made a mistake. We live and learn and I'll be more respectful next time". It would be over and done with.

Not to mention the fact that if you are working the course you are supposed/required to be watching the car that is by you and on your feet so that if anything were to happen you would be able to move out of the way. The club also requires that if you are taking pictures that you have a spotter to watch out for you.
Arguing about breaking the speed limit in a place that we are allowed to be at by the city is stupid.

I guess i'm talking to one sided minds. I'm not going to argue with you and take up forum space for no apparent reason. I didnt break the rules. I did accel up to speed at a safe rate though. My only point was why i/he/we are getting picked out of the crowd here....more than one person was speeding if the limit was 20...that is my valid point. I saw a black crx flying up and down that road. I saw another old black honda if i remember correctly come around the corner from the bathroom and even had a little bit of understeer because of the rate he was traveling.
Sorry for all this b.s. but im only trying to be realistic here. Mistakes were made, its not the end of the world....I would just like things to be "fair" when bitching about something that has been done. Equally get pissed at everyone who broke the speed rule, which is most likely alot of you too. Thanks.

No, they aren't one sided, you are missing the point that has been plainly spelled out for about 12 times in the thread.
It was already stated that he made the comment because the audi was the only car he noticed speeding. People that run/do the event don't pay that much attention to the cars in the lot because they are WATCHING or RACING.
The other cars you mention didn't sound like anyone on the site ,so they can't be bitched at here.
no one cares that you feel like you or whoever did'accel up to speed at a safe rate', a speed that was double the speed limit, at a rate that got yourself LOTS of attention.
if lots of people noticed, then it was too fast. period.
You get rantoul in a tizzy and the site goes bye bye then the closest place to autoX is Joliet. Thats why everyone is 'freaking out'.

kinda sad, but ok, sure!
I own a black CRX. It was there. The only way it was speeding is if one of the girls with us went too fast when they went into town to get us drinks (they took my car since it failed tech). Knowing how slow that thing is, it takes some serious noise and effort to get it going. If there was a problem, someone should have said something to them. Afraid of two small women? They both know the speed limit is a slow crawl. Regardless, someone else doing it DOES NOT MAKE IT RIGHT. Your argument looks like this:
1. Stalin killed millions of people.
2. Hitler killed millions of people.
:. (C) It is acceptable for anyone to kill millions of people.
This is an example of an invalid argument. Both premises are true, but the conclusion in false.

Not to try to have the last word, but after reading this thread (which is nearly as bad as the Bloomington Bad Job thread), I was wondering about how old you were and how long you'd been here as I am relatively new myself. The dude in the red SRT4 started giving me lip when I told him, "FYI, that BOV puts you in SM"
Him: Haha, that's funny
Me: I'm serious
Him: It's a nonperformance enhancement, blah blah blah blah, bitch bitch bitch bitch
He wasn't happy. Sorry...
He was butt hurt because he went to the CCSCC site to class his car before he even ordered parts. He saw nothing about a BOV knocking him into a higher class. Yes, the rules are the rules, but the thing doesn't do anything but make noise and cost money. He asked me and I told him to check online. I have never thought of putting an after market one in my RX-7, so I did not know off the top of my head.

I understand his side, for sure, and I agree with it 100%. However, the only thing I can find on CCSCC's site in regards to classing and rules is:
Car Class Information
CCSCC runs all events using current SCCA Solo II rules, including car classes. We do have a novice class for those with little or no experience in autocrossing.
Now, a mis-interpretation of the rules is common. The rule of thumb is that if it doesn't say you CAN, then you CAN'T.
I hope he didn't take it personally as it surely wasn't a personal attack or anything. Maybe next year the SEB will change it, but I won't hold my breath. A rumor surfaced at the beginning of the year that they were legal but it was obviously false. I actually posted it on CSS that they were legal and never went back to correct the post once the 2007 rules were released.

Imagine if one-by-one all the bars in campus-town were shut down but one, and the cops are watching that last bar like a hawk. You'd probably be a little uptight if somebody did something that might attract the attention of Johnny Law. Thats what's going on with autocross sites in the area. When I first started 15 years ago we had 5 regular sites in central Illinois. We're down to one regular site in Rantoul and a handful of tenuous one-offs. If we lose Rantoul (which is a site that most regions in the country would die to have because of its size, price, and availability) our autocross program goes from ~26 events a year to 6, two of which are on pretty crappy lots and the other 4 an hour+ drive from Champaign. Thus the rather short fuse when it comes to seemingly small transgressions near the site.
Hope you and your buddy in the S4 come back and actually try it some time. The adrenaline rush you get from a good run is way better than any alcohol buz you'll get on a Saturday night. Just please drive like a granny anywhere north of Thomasboro!

That little roadster car was FUCKING SICK.
I'd rock that thing anyday.
I love how people say that. I would think putting crazy hp figures down would cause more reliability issues than auto-x. I personally have never had realiability problems stemming directly from auto-x. But I understand your fear of having one car.

You'll grow up soon, it's ok. There's more to life than a bottle of booze. I learned that about 3yrs ago. You'll come around, I have faith.
I know theres alot more to life than a bottle of booze, I just have fun doing it....I've been being a bit of a limp wrist lately and spending alot of time with the g/f so i havent actually been hitting the bottle except on weekends....maybe a few thursays :o
I get what you're saying though.
In all reality, nothing against anyone I just dont think i'll ever make it back. I can't punish myself by waking up at 7 on a sunday. It just wont happen.
