By no means is this a complete list, and can be a work in progress. If you know of more events in the midwest (IL, IN, WI, MI, etc) please post up and I'll work them into the calendar.

Some of these events are more newbie friendly than others. If you are looking to sign up for your first event, I suggest you contact the event organizers and discuss. In my past experience, the cheaper events have less instruction and vice versa... moral of the story, if you are a newbie, don't cheap out on your first event. Typical price of these events range from $150-250 per day (click on organizer link for event specific pricing, schedule, run groups, etc.). If you do not have a helmet, contact the organizer and see if any are available to borrow/rent or purchase yourself a nice SA2005 helmet. If your helmet starts with an M (motorcycle), it may not be allowed at all tracks/events (again, double check before registering). Some events are vert friendly while others may not be. When in doubt, inquire the organizers. Be prepared to join some clubs for some of these events (i.e. NASA, BMWCCA, Audi club, PCA, SCCA, etc)

Auto-X is outside the scope of this schedule and thread. This list only includes driving events (non-competitive HPDE's) for actual road courses in the area. This is not racing nor are these racing schools.

Nice to see, but how many of these events will people really be doing without wrecking their car?

i believe these are track days, not wheel to wheel racing. if you wreck your car its your own fault for overdoing it

I've spent probably 20 days behind the wheel at these driving events and haven't wrecked yet (only gone off-track three times). Just don't overdrive or try to "prove" anything and most will be fine.

Wrecks happen. I see one or two every season. The AMS event last year had a couple incidents (mostly kabooms, but atleast two cars had contact... one spilled oil and the other one slid into tire barrier).

Some insurance companies will allow you to make one claim for these events but usually drop you soon afterwards.

Gotta pay to play, I guess. That's the risk but atleast its an opportunity to enjoy a sports/sporty car. People also wreck at drag racing events and auto-x with NO option for insurance claims as those are racing (timed) events. Atleast with a DE you can call it drivers education or car control.

Hey I'm just trying to keep the little kids on this site from going out and wrecking their cars. I have seen it far to many times.

Say it a little more condescending next time. Everyone has to learn at some point.

I would rather have balls and crash my car than be a chicken on the sidelines.

If everybody should drive like grandma's, we should all have camrys, lol.

No it can't. Most ppl who have incidents are driving like idiots or get in WAY over their head.

There are risks with everything. You could get in a wreck on the way to the gas station.

Its a rush to drive a car on a track though, and its worth it.

i must have misunderstood... you mean an accident could happen anywhere, meaning outside of the track? If so, I agree.

If I were to accidently discovery my boundries. I would much rather it be on a closed circuit, with an instructor in the car, with paramedics, corner workers, one-way traffic, with a helmet on, and gravel traps than on a mountain drive or similar.

Agree 100% with swoggler.

Also, the people going off seem to always be the people that think car 'x' must be the best thing since sliced bread and they should be able to keep up with anyone else on the track. Typically this involves Honda Civic, Evo, WRX/STI, and Viper owners, but really it can be anyone.

If you can leave your ego in the pits, you'll be fine. If you can't handle the fact that people will be passing you all the time, then you'd best just stay home.

I just got back from the Audi club Chicago and absolutely AWESOME event!!! They had quite a bit of emphasis on education, which would make them an ideal group for a first-timer. Also, felt like all makes/models welcome there, great bunch of people.
